Development Officer, Institutional Giving
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, a growing educational and cultural organization with the world’s foremost archives and library devoted to the history and culture of East European Jewry seeks a full-time Development Officer, Institutional Giving to focus on securing foundation, corporate, and government grants to join our development team. We are looking for a professional that pays attention to details. The Development Officer, Institutional Giving will report directly to the Chief Development Officer.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Devise and implement strategies to expand, acquire, renew, and upgrade YIVO’s pipeline to support both unrestricted and special projects.
- Lead on writing, editing, and copy editing of foundations and major donor materials, including proposals, letters of inquiry, concept notes, grant reports, progress updates, and other related written materials.
- Participate in the identification and cultivation of donor prospects.
- Maintain familiarity and understanding of YIVO’s work, goals, and priorities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A self-starter with proven abilities to secure high levels of gifts/grants.
- Detailed-oriented, ambitious, and motivated with a strong work ethic and who values a results-driven and highly collaborative work environment.
- Someone who demonstrates the ability to present the mission convincingly and professionally and who engages, inspires, and generates enthusiasm among prospects.
- Determined and decisive, exhibiting sound judgment.
- Willing to work evenings and some weekends.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 3-5 years of successful fundraising experience within a Jewish communal, higher education, or nonprofit setting.
- Demonstrated experience, success, and progressive responsibility in fundraising.
- Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Suite, Raiser’s Edge, and other relevant programs, databases, and reporting systems.
Additional Information:
Salary: $90,000 to $105,000 commensurate with experience

Exhibition Developer, Online Museum
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, a growing educational and cultural organization with the world’s foremost archives and library devoted to the history and culture of East European Jewry seeks a full-time Exhibition Developer to join the YIVO Bruce and Francesca Cernia Slovin Online Museum and work on writing, research, and other duties for future exhibitions. The online museum uses interactive storytelling to contextualize hundreds of artifacts from the YIVO archives, taking the user on a journey of discovery. We are looking for a professional that pays attention to details. The Exhibition Developer will report directly to the Chief Curator of the Online Museum.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with the Chief Curator in the development of exhibitions for the online museum;
- Perform content research and write texts for the exhibitions, with a general audience as target;
- Perform artifact research in the YIVO archives and other institutions as needed;
- Work in reviews of exhibition texts with scholars;
- Perform public workshops and presentations of the exhibitions (training will be provided if needed);
- Perform basic image editing for digitized artifacts (training will be provided by YIVO);
- Clear rights from outside providers for use in exhibitions;
- Perform basic HTML/CSS tasks (training will be provided by YIVO);
- Perform basic administrative tasks, like sending payment requests, organizing files, etc.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with research and content development, preferably for exhibitions;
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Humanities, Museum Studies, Public History, Interaction Design, or similar fields;
- Great writing, research, and organization skills;
- Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS;
- Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere;
- Basic knowledge of Wordpress;
- Ability to learn new technologies and stay current with technical developments;
- A passion for creating experiential and interactive content that goes beyond traditional formats;
- Self-motivation, excellent communication, problem solver, and an open mind;
- A love of collaboration and learning;
- A fearless, can do, and positive attitude.
Additional Information:
Salary: $60,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience

Full-Time Program Assistant
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, a growing educational and cultural organization with the world’s foremost archives and library devoted to the history and culture of East European Jewry seeks a full-time Program Assistant to support the work of the Public Programs and Education departments. This is an in-person position based at YIVO’s headquarters in New York City.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the scheduling, setup, and execution of in-person and online classes and programs; liaise with Center for Jewish History staff regarding space reservations
- Manage YIVO’s general email mailbox and main phone line
- Interface with YIVO’s constituents, volunteers, and course registrants regarding programs and classes
- Manage YIVO’s event box office, including taking box office requests by email and phone, setting up box office at events, and reporting after events
- Assist in the compilation of statistics and reports regarding participants in programs and classes
- Assist in ordering and selling books and other items through the YIVO store and at events
- Help manage online educational series: keep up-to-date records of course registration, ensure the delivery of course premium content, and provide technical assistance to students. Provide assistance in launching new courses in the online series, including building the course website, managing production budget, and launch event preparation.
- Collect billing information, submit invoices to accounts payable, and track payments to vendors and participants in programs and projects
- Maintain knowledge of ongoing departmental initiatives and activities
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA)
- Experience working in an office
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Zoom; video editing a plus
- Skilled use of a PC and Mac
- Knowledge of HTML and experience building online content a plus
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to establish priorities and work independently
- Ability to multitask and resolve recurring problems in a timely manner
- Ability to work with a diverse and intergenerational constituency
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends depending on programs calendar
- Good math and writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Positive attitude with a willingness to help
Experience:
- Previous administrative assistant and/or online helpdesk experience preferred.
- Customer service experience preferred
- Knowledge of Yiddish and/or interest in East European Jewish history and culture a plus
Additional Information:
Salary: $50,000-$53,000 (plus overtime as available)
