Jewish Immigration to America

YIVO has extensive migration collections: rich sources of information about the experiences of some of the over 2.5 million Jews from Eastern Europe who immigrated to America from 1881-1924, Jewish refugees who sought refuge from Hitler in the 1930s-40s, and later waves of Jewish immigrants.

Every one of those immigrants has a unique story. And every piece of paper, every photograph in YIVO’s immigration and migration collections is a gateway to those stories.
